District IV Honor Band Sign Up

Parents/guardians of 7th and 8th grade band members:


Each year our District IV Band Director's Association hosts an honor band. An honor band is essentially an all-star group of musicians. In February, 7th and 8th grade students audition from schools across our district. Students with the highest scores are selected to participate in an honor band event in April.


During this honor band weekend, students will rehearse and perform alongside other talented musicians from across our district. Professionals are brought in to work with each instrument group. Students put on a performance after just a few hours of rehearsal. This is a wonderful learning opportunity, and the students who participate always have a great time.


This is 100% optional, but I wanted to put this info out there for any students who are interested in signing up. Please see details below:


  1. Auditions are virtual this year. Students will submit audition videos through a designated website any time between February 8th and February 26th. I will allow students time during the school day to make these recordings, but they are also welcome to record at home. All students should already have copies of the audition scales and solos. Please let me know if there is any confusion about audition music.

  2. Students who are chosen for the group will be need to be available all day on April 16th and April 17th. On these 2 days, they will be rehearsing and performing with the honor band. Locations and times have not been set at this time. To be safe, please only sign your child up if you're sure you can provide transportation up to an hour from Denham Springs at any time on April 16th and April 17th.

  3. Any student who signs up to audition will have to pay a $10 audition fee to JPJH Band. I will set this up through the online payment center in January, and students will need to pay before February 8th. Please only sign your child up if you're willing/able to pay this fee in the future.

  4. To sign your child up, please fill out this google form. You'll also need to print, sign, and send me this additional form. In order to sign your child up for an audition, I will need both of these forms before we leave for our holiday break.


So to sum it all up, if you'd like your child to audition, you'll need to:

  1. Turn in the 2 forms linked above before we leave in December.

  2. Pay $10 when we come back in January (before Feb 8th)

  3. Your child will submit a video audition between Feb 8th and Feb 26th.

  4. Be able to provide transportation to and from events on April 16th and 17th. Times and Locations TBA (Sorry! Hopefully they'll have this nailed down soon!)


I'll send out reminders for deadlines, and I'll send out any new info as I get it. For now, please just fill out the 2 forms linked above if you'd like to sign your child up. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me at david.will@lpsb.org.
