First Day Of School

Updated: Aug 7

Hi everyone!

On each child's first day of school, they'll be handed a letter that tells parents to visit this announcement.

We will not be having a band parent meeting this year. Instead, I'll be putting out information through announcements like this one, and answering questions as they arise. Please read this announcement carefully, and follow all necessary steps below. Feel free to reach out any time with questions!

Here are the steps we all need to take in order to prepare for this school year. Please complete this list at your earliest convenience...especially the first few steps!

All Parents/Guardians:

  • Please read this document carefully. This outlines some key band policies that we all need to be aware of. Please read this carefully, as these policies will affect your child's grade and ability to participate in band.

  • Please fill out this Google Form to signify that you agree to all band policies, and to provide me with contact information. Please don't do this until I've answered any questions that you have about the band policy.

  • Please pay your child's band fee at your earliest convenience.

  • Sign up for Remind messages if you haven't already done so.

  • Sign up for email updates if you haven't already done so. This is done by entering your email at the bottom of www.jpjhband.com

Anyone interested in volunteering:

  • Please fill out this form. I'm not entirely sure what this year will look like, or when the band will need volunteers. This form will help me know who to reach out to if we are looking for some extra hands down the road.

If your child is in beginner band:

  • Please email me asap to set up a mouthpiece testing appointment. This needs to be completely finished by August 21st.

  • Please mark your calendar for a Zoom meeting on September 1st at 6:00pm. We will meet with representatives from Music and Arts, and they will walk you through the sign up for renting your child's instrument. We can set it up with a flexible start date. That way you have an instrument waiting for you when you need it. This is an optional meeting, but I recommend attending if you haven't obtained an instrument yet.

If you're wondering what we're going to do this year:

  • No students need to bring instruments to class until further notice.

  • You should expect daily assignments in Google Classroom. I will post assignments by date, but work will typically all be due Tuesday night, Thursday night, and Sunday night. This way, A/B students will be able to ask me for help in person before being required to turn in work.

  • Returning band members will be expected to practice 5+ nights a week at home. They will be given playing assignments roughly 3x a week (Most often due on Monday, Wednesday and Friday). Please contact me if you need to pick up an instrument from school, or if your child's instrument isn't working properly.

  • Beginning band members will spend all of their time learning fundamentals without the instruments. As soon as we're able, we will get playing!

  • Communication will be key this year. I will do everything I can to plan ahead. However, if the past few months have taught me anything, it's that you can't always plan for everything. When confusion arises (and it will), please contact me and we will work it out!
