Want to be in band?
Awesome! I want you to be in band too!
***THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP IS JULY 14th!***
I'm really happy that you're interested in band! It is my goal to make class as fun as possible while teaching students as much as I can about music. I'm sure that students and parents have a ton of questions. I'll do my best to address them here, but you can also email me at david.will@lpsb.org any time!
Rough Timeline...
This is a rough outline of what it looks like to join the Juban Parc Jr High Band:
Step 1: Parents/Guardians read this page carefully
Step 2: To sign your child up, you fill out THIS FORM BEFORE JULY 14th (Please read the rest of this page first).
Step 3: You pay a $50 band fee when school starts
Step 4: I spend the first week of school helping each beginner choose the instrument that suits them best. I will not force a kid to play an instrument they don't want to play. However, I will do my best to help them choose an instrument that they're well-suited for. Please encourage your child to keep an open mind. Please don't get an instrument until after you get a letter from me!
Step 5: I will send out a letter letting you know which instrument your child and I have settled on. The letter will also give you info on how to obtain one of these instruments. (most instruments can be rented for under $25 a month!)
Step 6: You obtain an instrument for your child by September 5th. You will get more info from me on this after school starts. We will even have a rental night where we can get everything set up in one sitting.
That's pretty much it! Your child's band fee will cover a uniform polo for them, as well as a book. In your child's first year, they will have only 6 required events outside of school. (4 after-school rehearsals and 2 concerts).
If you're ready to sign your child up, don't forget to fill out THIS FORM
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at davidwillmusic@gmail.com
I hope to meet you soon, and I hope to see your child in the band room this August!
Frequently Asked Questions
Will band conflict with football, baseball, soccer, cheer, etc.?
NOPE! Beginning band doesn't conflict with any other school club/sport/activity. We will make it work!
Why would I want to be in band? Convince me!
Well that is an easy one. Band is fun! Band kids get to take a break from the conventional classroom structure every day. They get to learn something completely different. 9 times out of 10, kids who sign up for band end up sticking with it through their Jr. High years.
Parents, if you want to know some of the facts and stats about how band will positively affect your child's development click here.
"But I don't Know anything about music"
Perfect! Almost none of my beginners know how to play an instrument. I will teach you everything you need to know in class. As long as you want to learn, you belong in the band room!
What instrument will i play?
I will work with each student to find the instrument that suits them best. I will never force a kid to play an instrument they don't want to play. That being said, I've started over 1000 beginners, and I'm pretty good at helping kids pick instruments that they'll have success with. Remember, all instruments can play the same songs. Please keep an open mind. I promise I will too. We'll work together to make sure each kid has fun and experiences success!
The instruments that we start beginners on are: Flute / Clarinet / Trumpet / Trombone / Tuba / Percussion

I don't know if I can afford band
If you truly want to be in band, I will do whatever I can to make that happen. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need some help. I want to teach everyone!
Are there are a lot of after school things?
Nope! The beginner band does 2 concerts a year after school... That is it. Each concert will be preceded by 2 after-school rehearsals. So all together that's 6 things! I try to make band as easy as possible, especially in your first year.
